The Under-12 AA West Mall Lightning showed that their impact reaches far beyond the rink. This season, the team partnered with Holiday Hope to provide gifts and greeting cards for seniors living in long-term care who may not have family to celebrate with over the holidays.
During their team Christmas party, each player created a personalized gift basket to be delivered to a senior in care. By the end of the night, the team had assembled 17 gift baskets filled with thoughtful items and holiday surprises.
The players didn’t stop there. Throughout their home games in November, the team also collected Christmas cards with messages of cheer and encouragement. With the support of families and fans, they gathered 100 cards to be distributed alongside the gift baskets.
Thanks to the efforts of the players, and the support of parents and coaches, more seniors in the community will feel remembered and appreciated this holiday season. It’s a powerful reminder that the values learned in hockey — teamwork, empathy, and leadership — can make a real difference off the ice.
