U18 Mississauga Senators Rally Community Support for Holiday Giving

The Under-18 Mississauga Senators showed leadership, extending beyond the ice.

On November 29, the team spent several hours at Vince and Franca Cappiello’s No Frills, helping collect donations for the Vaughan Food Bank and CP24’s CHUM Christmas Wish.

The connection is a personal one. The Cappiellos’ son, Antonio, was a member of the U18 Senators last season, and through that relationship the team became involved with the store’s food drive. This year marks the second season the Senators have taken part, turning a simple community initiative into a meaningful team tradition.

During their shift at the store, players greeted customers, promoted the drive, and helped encourage donations at the door. Along with generous contributions from shoppers, the players received more than $500 in cash donations — which they then used on their own shopping runs inside the store, filling carts with food for the collection bins.

By the end of the day, the team had helped generate a substantial amount of food and funds in support of local families and children. Their efforts will directly benefit the Vaughan Food Bank and CHUM Christmas Wish, helping ensure more households have access to essential items and holiday support.

For Team Manager Nicole Indovina, it was a powerful example of what it means to wear the Senators logo: stepping up for others, working together, and giving back to the community that supports them.
