The 2025-26 Ontario Hockey League season began on Thursday, September 18, with the Oshawa Generals taking on the North Bay Battalion, and the Peterborough Petes playing host to the Brampton Steelheads. As OHL Opening Week begins, a total of 160 Greater Toronto Hockey League alumni are featured on OHL team rosters.
The Brampton Steelheads led all teams in GTHL alumni rostered for the second consecutive season with 12, including 2025 OHL Priority Selection first round picks Keaton Ardagh (Toronto Jr. Canadiens) and Peter Green (Don Mills Flyers). Next to Brampton are the Niagara IceDogs, with 11 alumni rostered. Rosters with 10 or more GTHL alumni also include the Flint Firebirds and Sudbury Wolves, each featuring 10. Of the 20 OHL teams, 18 have at least five GTHL alumni on their opening week roster.
Each of the GTHL’s 12 ‘AAA’ clubs were represented with alumni. The Toronto Jr. Canadiens led the way with 32 representatives, followed by the Toronto Marlboros with 28. The Vaughan Kings, North York Rangers, and Toronto Young Nationals follow, with 20, 18, and 14 representatives respectively. Each GTHL club was represented with at least six former players.
On the OHL’s opening night, Jax Pereira’s North Bay Battalion took down Sam Roberts and the Oshawa Generals with a 4-2 victory on home ice, while Caden Taylor and the Peterborough Petes rolled to a big 6-3 win over Keaton Ardagh and the Brampton Steelheads. Six GTHL alumni scored their first career OHL goal on opening night. More GTHL Alumni will be in action on Friday, September 19 with eight games scheduled.
