95 Seasons Strong: Toronto Marlboros Celebrate Milestone Anniversary

Ninety-five years of hockey history. Generations of players. One proud tradition.

The Toronto Marlboros are celebrating a milestone during the 2026–27 season, marking 95 years of developing young players and people, while building a legacy within the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

On Friday, October 9, the organization brought its history to the ice in a special way, with every Marlboros team from Under-10 through U18 taking part in an anniversary celebration. Players across all nine age groups suited up in commemorative 95th Anniversary jerseys, recognizing nearly a century of Marlboros hockey and the generations who have proudly worn the organization’s crest.

The celebration was a tribute to the Club’s history and a chance for today’s players to be part of a milestone that connects them to those who came before them.

The Toronto Marlboros’ minor hockey history dates back to the 1931–32 season, when the organization introduced a Bantam team to compete in the Toronto Hockey League. That same year, Maple Leaf Gardens opened its doors, providing a home for young Marlboros players who would practise on the ice in the early mornings before heading to school.

What began nearly a century ago has grown into one of the most recognizable names in Canadian minor hockey.

Throughout the decades, the Marlboros have built a tradition of competitive excellence, capturing numerous League and provincial championships while helping develop generations of young athletes.

The Club’s history is also connected to some of hockey’s most recognizable names. NHL stars including Connor McDavid, John Tavares, Rick Nash, Jason Spezza, and Wyatt Johnston have all worn the Marlboros crest during their minor hockey careers.

While the organization’s alumni have gone on to achieve success at hockey’s highest levels, the Marlboros’ legacy extends well beyond professional hockey. For thousands of players, coaches, volunteers, and families, being part of the Club has meant developing skills, building friendships, and creating memories through the game.

As the 2026–27 season continues, the anniversary provides an opportunity to recognize the countless individuals who have contributed to the Marlboros’ success — from the players and coaches of previous generations to the families, volunteers, and supporters who continue to shape the organization today.

The GTHL congratulates the Toronto Marlboros on 95 seasons of minor hockey and recognizes the Club’s longstanding contributions to player development and the game across the Greater Toronto Area.
