Six GTHL alumni win 2023 OHL Championship

On May 21, the Peterborough Petes became 2023 Ontario Hockey League Champions for the 10th time in franchise history, defeating the London Knights with a 2-1 final in Game 6 of the series. Six Greater Toronto Hockey League alumni lifted the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Petes:

  • Tucker Robertson (Toronto Marlboros)
  • Brennan Othmann (Don Mills Flyers)
  • Quinton Page (Vaughan Kings)
  • Jonathan Melee (Toronto Titans)
  • Shawn Spearing (Toronto Jr. Canadiens)
  • Liam Sztuska (Toronto Titans)

Tucker Robertson potted his third-game winner of the OHL Championship Series to make the deciding difference in the third period. Robertson finished the 2023 OHL Playoffs with nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 23 games.

Former Don Mills Flyer Brennan Othmann led the Petes in post-season scoring with 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) after being acquired at the OHL trade deadline from the Flint Firebirds.

Peterborough captain Shawn Spearing became the first player in OHL history to serve as captain of both an OHL champion as well as an OHL Cup champion since the adoption of the current OHL Cup tournament format in 2002. Spearing wore the ‘C’ for the Jr. Canadiens when they won the Under-16 ‘AAA’ showcase in 2018.
