GTHL Pens Tribute to Ken Dryden

The Greater Toronto Hockey League is deeply saddened by the passing of Ken Dryden, one of the game’s greatest goaltenders and a proud product of minor hockey in the GTHL community.

Dryden grew up in Etobicoke and began his journey in the Humber Valley house league before rising to hockey’s biggest stage. Over the course of his remarkable career, he won six Stanley Cups and five Vezina Trophies during just eight NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He was Canada’s goalie of record in four games of the historic 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union, cementing his place in Canada’s sporting legacy.

In 2011, the GTHL named Dryden to its Team of the Century, recognizing his unmatched contributions to the game and his connection to grassroots hockey in Toronto. Beyond his accomplishments on the ice, Dryden was admired for his leadership, intellect, and enduring impact on Canadian hockey culture.

The GTHL extends its heartfelt condolences to the Dryden family, his friends, and the entire hockey community as so many reflect on the life and legacy of a true legend — on and off the ice.
