On Thursday, October 9, the Greater Toronto Hockey League was proud to support Shine Foundation’s second annual Come to Sleigh Para Hockey Tournament at Scotiabank Pond. The event raised over $90,000 in support of Shine Foundation.
Pushing participants outside their comfort zone, Come to Sleigh encouraged players to experience the accessible sport of para ice hockey for the first time. Five GTHL staff members came together to form a team to participate in the event.
“It’s great being able to participate in and support initiatives like the Come to Sleigh Para Hockey tournament,” said Felipe Palleros, the GTHL’s Director of Culture and DEI, who participated in the tournament. “While we’re having fun, the great part is that we are supporting organizations that are dedicated to removing barriers.”

Since 1987, Shine Foundation has served youth aged 11 to 21 living with severe physical disabilities, helping them build confidence, independence, and optimism to boost their mental health and future goals. The Shine program helps them to see themselves differently as someone who can versus someone who can’t.
The GTHL is proud to have played a role in the significant funds and awareness raised, as Shine makes an outstanding impact on the lives of many young people and their chance to experience a life-changing Shine Dream.
