On October 5, the Markham Majors and Markham Islanders hosted the ‘Fill the Net, Feed the Community’ food drive, giving families and coaches an opportunity to give back to support those in need. The Markham Fire Department supported the event with partnership, providing signage and handouts for promotion.
Thanks to generosity of the community, the Majors and Islanders together collected over 100 bags of non-perishable food items for the Markham Food Bank, helping to combat food insecurity in the community by providing essential food relief to individuals and families in need.
“It was inspiring to watch our coaches, players, and families come together for the food drive,” said Randy Jacobs, General Manager of the Markham Majors. “Their energy and generosity show how hockey can bring a community together.”
The club will host a second ‘Fill the Net, Feed the Community’ food drive on October 11, led by the Under-11 Majors and their head coach Ammal Esmatyar, collecting donations for the Markham Food Bank and the Richmond Hill Food Bank.
