77 GTHL Alumni Named to 2025-26 NHL Opening Night Rosters

As the 2025-26 National Hockey League season gets underway on Tuesday, October 7, a total of 77 Greater Toronto Hockey League alumni are featured on opening night rosters.  

Of the NHL’s 32 teams, 29 include at least one former GTHL player. Ten teams include a minimum of four former GTHL players.  

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Utah Mammoth, and San Jose Sharks lead the way, each rostering five former GTHL players.  

All 12 of the GTHL’s ‘AAA’ Member Associations are represented at the NHL level. The Toronto Marlboros lead the way with 23 alumni, followed by the Don Mills Flyers with nine. The Toronto Jr. Canadiens have eight former players rostered, while the Mississauga Senators and Toronto Red Wings each have seven. The Reps Hockey Club and Toronto Young Nationals have six former players apiece, followed by the Mississauga Rebels (4) and Vaughan Kings (3) in the middle of the pack. The North York Rangers, Toronto Titans, and Markham Majors are all represented by one former player. 

The puck drops with a three-game slate on October 7, starting with Sam Bennett (Toronto Marlboros) and the two-time defending champion Florida Panthers taking on Ethan Del Mastro (Toronto Marlboros) and the Chicago Blackhawks.  

On October 8, Chris Tanev (Toronto Red Wings) and the Toronto Maple Leafs begin their season against Jake Evans (Mississauga Senators) and the Montreal Canadiens.
