As the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) drops the puck on its 2025-26 season, nine Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) alumni are highlighted on opening night rosters across the league’s eight teams – including both of its new expansion clubs, the Seattle Torrent and Vancouver Goldeneyes.
Montréal Victoire features the largest GTHL contingent with three alumni on its opening night roster.
- Laura Stacey (Toronto Royals) returns as a key piece of Montréal’s forward group after another strong season in the PWHL.
- Tamara Giaquinto (Toronto Wolverines) earns a spot on Victoire’s blue line for her first full PWHL campaign after being selected by Montréal at the 2025 PWHL Draft.
- Jessica DiGirolamo (Mississauga North Stars) continues her professional career on defence after previously appearing in the league with Boston.
On the East Coast south of the border, Jaime Bourbonnais (Mississauga Jets) remains a key part of the New York Sirens’ back end as the club looks to climb the standings following an offseason roster overhaul.
Out west, Seattle Torrent ices Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Toronto Titans), adding the dynamic forward to its inaugural roster as the franchise begins its first PWHL season.
The hometown Toronto Sceptres once again feature a pair of prominent GTHL graduates:
- Daryl Watts (Mississauga Braves), who made an immediate impact in Toronto’s inaugural season, and
- Natalie Spooner (West Mall Lightning), the reigning league Most Valuable Player and one of the PWHL’s strongest offensive threats.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes will open their inaugural season with a Humber Valley Sharks connection on the back end.
- Sophie Jaques (Humber Valley Sharks) arrives in Vancouver as a two-time Walter Cup champion and 2025 Defender of the Year finalist.
- Claire Thompson (Humber Valley Sharks) joins Jaques on the Goldeneyes blue line after winning back-to-back Walter Cups with the Minnesota Frost.
From minor hockey rinks across the GTHL to the PWHL’s biggest stages, these nine players carry their minor hockey roots into another historic season for professional women’s hockey.
