Hockey Canada and BFL CANADA have named Tanya Witty of the Toronto East Enders Ticats as the Ontario Community recipient of the 2025 BFL Women in Coaching Award.
There is arguably no more important role in hockey than that of the coach, who is tasked with guiding young players not only on the ice, but off it as well. They are leaders in hockey, and leaders in life — and Witty exemplifies that leadership in every way.
The Community Coach division is defined as a woman coaching athletes of any age who play and compete in divisions where there is not a National Championship identified as a culminating event (ex: Under-7 to U15 house league coaches, up to ‘A’ and ‘AA’).
This national recognition adds to a milestone year for Witty. The Greater Toronto Hockey League proudly announced her as the 2025 recipient of the Herb Ebisuzaki Coaching Award at the annual GTHL Awards Gala presented by Nothers The Award Store, held June 12 at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Witty not only joined a prestigious list of coaches recognized for their excellence, but made history as the first female recipient of the award since its inception in 2005.
Witty is one of 22 deserving women across the country recognized with a provincial or territorial BFL Women in Coaching Award. These awards celebrate the outstanding contributions of women behind the bench who lead with passion, fairness, and purpose.
Congratulations, Tanya, and thank you for your continued dedication to the game!
