ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Frost claimed their second-straight Walter Cup title on Monday, with a 2-1 overtime win over the Ottawa Charge in Game 4 of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Championship Final. Two Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) alumni helped lift the Frost to victory.  

GTHL ALUMNI (2):  

  • Claire Thompson (Humber Valley Sharks) 
  • Sophie Jaques (Humber Valley Sharks)  

The Frost finished the regular season with a 10-5-4-11 record, placing fourth in league standings. Sophie Jaques led the team in scoring among defenders with seven goals and 15 assists, with Claire Thompson right behind scoring four goals and 14 assists. Both players earned nominations for the PWHL’s Defender of the Year award. 

For the second consecutive season, the Frost entered the PWHL playoffs as the lowest seed, and took on the Toronto Sceptres in the first round. After falling behind 1-0 in the series, the Frost bounced back to take three straight victories and claim their spot in the PWHL Championship
Final. Jaques was a critical piece of the first round victory, picking up two assists, including one on the overtime winner, in the decisive fourth game.  

The Frost took on the Ottawa Charge in the PWHL Championship Final, in a series that saw all four games finish in overtime with a 2-1 result. After falling behind once again in the first game of the series, the Frost rallied to three straight victories. Thompson was a key catalyst in turning the series around, putting up four assists in the Frost’s three wins.  

Jaques finished the playoffs second in league scoring with two goals and five assists for a total of seven points in eight games. Thompson tied Frost teammate Taylor Heise for the league lead in assists, putting up six helpers in seven games.
