The Greater Toronto Hockey League is deeply saddened to share the passing of Sandy Ross on August 18, 2026.
Ross was a long-time volunteer in the hockey community who served as the Arena Board Chair for Weston Lions Arena for the past three decades. He dedicated much of his time coaching and mentoring athletes through Weston Minor Hockey, and other programs across the Greater Toronto Area. He coached at Weston Minor Hockey League for 35 seasons.
His passion for the game of hockey spread to those who were lucky enough to be around him. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2012, his determination was on display as he continued to coach and teach youth hockey players in the GTHL, North York Hockey League, and in the Competitive Development Program (CDP).
The GTHL extends its heartfelt condolences to Sandy’s wife, Jane, his son and daughter, Evan and Lesley, and his entire extended family. He will be remembered through the many people he touched in the hockey community and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory can be made to the Weston Area Emergency Services.
